We closed on Friday and are now the proud owners of 341 Dayton!!
We haven't been able to find too much history on the house. We know it was run as a bed and breakfast by several of the previous owners. So far, we have found that this three-story brick mansion was built by David Chancey Shepard (for whom Shepard Road in St Paul is named after) in 1908 as a wedding gift for his grandson.
We also found one mention of it in the NYT in a 1997 travel article about St Paul:

"Among the best of St. Paul's bed-and-breakfasts is the four-room Cathedral Hill Inn, 341 Dayton Avenue, a Tudor Revival mansion. Legend has it that John Dillinger's gang hid out here in the 1930's."
It is approximately 8000 sq ft and the house features seven fireplaces along with mahogany paneling, hardwood floors and leaded-glass built-in cabinets. All of the woodwork and leaded glass is in good shape. But there's definitely a lot of work to do. Our goals for this first year include a total gut of the kitchen, building of a garage and creation of a master suite. Wade would also include creation of "man land" as a high priority for the first year! Additionally, we need to do a lot of painting, wallpaper removal and sprucing up of the yard. But we are looking forward to the end results and will hopefully enjoy the journey:)
